While I liked the idea of the Ring of Red ride, I’m not normally a fan of group riding and usually avoid it wherever possible. But I thought I’d make an exception for this event, especially as it marked 100 years. My thinking was – well if I don’t like it I can always peel off at a junction and go my own way.
I arrived at Clacket Lane services and it was excellently marshalled and organised. I had about an hour to wander round taking photos and talking to various folk including our Lead Rider (Dave?) who proudly led the way with his Royal Anglian regiment flag.
It turned out that my concerns about group riding were unfounded. Cars joining from slip-roads seemed to pass seamlessly through the procession and out of the way. Everyone followed the formation and I must say it looked spectacular! I felt immensely proud to be a part of it.
